About this product
This is a Zigbee curtain motor on its own, for a house already running Zigbee. Same job as the Wi-Fi motor in our track kits, different radio. No track comes with it. It is meant to drive one of our curtain tracks, either because you are building a system around Zigbee rather than Wi-Fi, or because a motor needs replacing.
- What the gateway does, and why nothing works without one
- Why a Zigbee curtain motor beats a Wi-Fi one in a busy house
- What is in the box
- Should you buy this or a complete track kit
Buy it if your house already runs Zigbee. The advantage is real: it joins the mesh with your sensors and switches, it does not occupy a slot on the router, and it holds up better than Wi-Fi in a house with a lot of devices talking at once. The catch is that a Zigbee gateway is required and is not included. Without one you cannot reach it from the app at all. If this would be the first smart device in the house, take one of our complete Wi-Fi track kits instead, where the radio is inside the motor and there is nothing else to buy.
The housing is aluminium alloy with a stainless steel drive shaft. It has obstruction protection, so if something gets in the way, a child or a pet or a jammed runner, the motor stops rather than forcing through. The curtains can be drawn by hand whether the power is on or off, which matters when the power goes. It arrives with a UK three-pin plug fitted, so it goes straight into a Tanzanian socket without an adaptor.
What we have not published, and why. This unit carries no brand or model number, and we could not find a manufacturer datasheet for it. So there is no weight capacity, speed, noise or power figure on this page. We are not going to put numbers on a motor page that we cannot stand behind. Tell us the width of your window and the weight of your curtains and we will check it against the track before you buy.
What the gateway does, and why nothing works without one
Zigbee devices do not speak to your router. They speak to each other and to a gateway, and the gateway is the only thing in the house that talks to both Zigbee and your Wi-Fi. Take it away and the motor is deaf: no app, no schedule, no voice control.
A Tuya or Smart Life branded Zigbee gateway is the straightforward option, since this motor pairs into the same app as the rest of the range. If you run Home Assistant, the ZHA integration with a USB Zigbee stick does the same job.
Why a Zigbee curtain motor beats a Wi-Fi one in a busy house
Every Wi-Fi device takes a slot on your router, and a house with twenty of them starts dropping connections in ways that are miserable to diagnose. Zigbee devices form their own mesh instead, each mains-powered one passing traffic along for the others, so the motor at the far end of the house is reachable through the switches between here and there.
The trade is the gateway. One box, bought once, and every Zigbee device after it is easier than the one before. If this motor would be the only Zigbee thing you own, that trade is not worth making.
What is in the box
The motor, and a UK three-pin plug already fitted so it goes into a Tanzanian socket without an adaptor. That is it. No track, no runners, no brackets and no gateway.
The housing is aluminium alloy on a stainless steel drive shaft. Obstruction protection stops it when something is in the way, and the curtains pull by hand whether the power is on or off.
Should you buy this or a complete track kit
Buy this if the track is already on the ceiling and you are replacing a dead motor, or if you are deliberately building the house on Zigbee and the gateway is already there.
If this would be the first smart device you own, do not start here. The 4 metre Wi-Fi track kit arrives with the track, the runners, the remote and the Wi-Fi inside the motor, and there is nothing else to buy. Tell us the width of the window and the weight of the curtains and we will check the pairing against the track before you order.

Questions
Does a track come with it?
No. This is the motor by itself. It is meant to drive one of our curtain tracks, either as the Zigbee alternative to the Wi-Fi motor those kits normally come with, or as a replacement if a motor has failed. If you want a complete curtain system, look at our WiFi Curtain Track and Motor kits, which include the track, the runners and a remote.
Do I need a Zigbee gateway?
Yes, and it is not in the box. Without one there is no app, no schedule and no voice control. This product only makes sense in a house that already runs Zigbee. If it would be your first smart device, our complete Wi-Fi track kit has the Wi-Fi built into the motor and needs nothing else.
Why would I choose Zigbee over the Wi-Fi motor?
Because you are already running a Zigbee system. It joins the mesh with your other sensors and switches, it does not take up a slot on the router, and it copes better in a house with a lot of devices. Those are the only reasons. On every other measure the Wi-Fi kit is the simpler buy.
What are its specifications?
We have not published them, deliberately. The unit carries no brand or model number and we could not find a manufacturer datasheet, so we have no sourced figure for weight capacity, speed, noise or power draw. Rather than print numbers we cannot stand behind, we would rather you told us your window width and how heavy your curtains are, and we will check it against the track.
Will it work in a power cut?
The curtains can be drawn by hand whether the power is on or off, so you are never stuck behind them. The motor itself needs power to run, and it plugs into an ordinary socket with a UK three pin plug already fitted.
