About this product
A GU10 fitting: the ceiling housing the lamp sits in. A round recessed downlight in a polished chrome finish, with two sprung clips on the sides. Cut the hole, squeeze the clips, push it up, and the springs hold it flush against the ceiling board.

Buy the GU10 fitting now and decide about smart bulbs later
This is the argument for downlights over integrated LED fittings. A GU10 housing takes any GU10 lamp, so you can fit out a room with ordinary bulbs today and swap in smart ones a year from now, one room at a time, without touching the ceiling again. An integrated fitting gives you no such option: when the LED in it fails or you want it controllable, the whole thing comes out.
How it goes in
Cut the hole, squeeze the two sprung clips inward, push the fitting up through the opening and let go. The springs open against the back of the ceiling board and pull the bezel flush. No screws, no brackets and no access needed from above, which is what makes downlights practical in a finished ceiling.
Polished chrome, and when it suits
A metal ring reads as a deliberate choice where a plain plastic bezel reads as a builder default. It suits a bathroom or a kitchen with chrome taps and fittings, and it is the usual reason people replace a tired white plastic bezel while leaving everything else alone.
GU10 is the twist and lock base
Two stubby pins that go in and turn a quarter to lock, as opposed to a screw or bayonet base. If the lamp you are holding twists into place rather than screwing, it is a GU10 and it fits this. The lamp is not included.
What to put in it
Any GU10 lamp, including the smart ones we sell: the WiFi smart bulb GU10, which needs no hub, or the Zigbee smart bulb GU10, which does but keeps your router free.
Buy the fittings when you are doing out a room, so the ceiling is cut once. Wikipedia describes the GU10 and other pin bases if you are matching an existing lamp.

Questions
Is a bulb included?
No. The fitting takes any GU10 lamp, which you choose separately.
Can I put a smart bulb in it?
Yes. Our smart GU10 bulbs use the same base and drop straight in.
How is it fitted?
A round hole in the ceiling board, then squeeze the two side clips and push the fitting up. The springs pull it flush.
What size hole does it need?
Measure the fitting against your ceiling before cutting, since cut out sizes vary a little between fittings.
Does it tilt?
No. This is the fixed round type, pointing straight down.
