About this product

The E90 battery is the N size cell, 1.5 volts, that is hard to find anywhere else. Smaller than an AA and shorter than an AAA, and still required by a surprising number of devices. Extra alkaline chemistry, with a shelf life of up to seven years.

The E90 battery is the one nobody stocks

It is an N size cell: smaller across than an AA and shorter than a AAA, and it sits in an awkward gap that most shops simply do not carry. That is the whole reason this page exists. A device that takes one is not broken when the battery dies; it is stranded, and people throw away perfectly good equipment because they could not find a cell. We keep it.

Six names for one battery

LR1, MN9100, GP910A, GP10A, UM5 and E910 are all this same cell. If a manual asks for any of those, order this. The naming is the second reason these devices get abandoned: people search one name, find nothing, and conclude the battery does not exist any more.

What actually uses it

More than you would expect. Bike lights, garage door openers, GPS trackers, proximity alarms, clocks, alarm systems, motion sensors, thermometers, wireless and battery operated security cameras, calculators, pet toys, robots and surface pens. It is a favourite of designers who need 1.5 volts in a smaller package than a AAA allows.

Seven year shelf life

Extra alkaline chemistry with storage of up to seven years, so a spare bought now for a device that eats one every eighteen months is not money left idle. Given how hard the cell is to find at short notice, buying two is the sensible move rather than the cautious one.

The specification

1.5 volts, N size, extra alkaline. Brand varies between deliveries and the specification does not.

If your remote takes the tall 12 volt cell instead, that is the V23GA, and for ordinary AAA there is our four pack. Wikipedia lists the N cell alongside every other size if you are identifying one from a device.
