What the Sensibo Pure air purifier filters at each stage

Air is pulled through the Sensibo Pure air purifier in three passes. A pre-filter takes hair and the larger dust before it reaches anything finer. A HEPA layer catches the small particles, PM1, PM2.5 and PM10, along with pollen, pet dander and mould spores. Activated carbon handles what you smell rather than what you see: smoke, cooking, paint.

All three sit in one cartridge that slides in from the base, so there is no set of separate filters to source individually.

The PM2.5 sensor is what you are paying for

Plenty of purifiers are a fan and a filter in a box, running at whatever speed you last set. This one reads the air continuously and changes its own fan speed to match.

So it idles quietly in a clean bedroom and works hard when somebody is frying fish, without anybody touching it. The app shows the live reading, and for most people that number is the first honest picture they have had of the air in their own house.

Pure Boost, and coming home to clean air

Boost runs the purifier hard while the house is empty and settles it down before you arrive, so the work is done by the time you walk in rather than starting when you do.

It also stretches the coverage. The unit is rated for a room of about 16 square metres normally, and up to 27 with Boost running.

Noise, and where to put it

It runs between 24 and 54 decibels. At the low end that is quieter than a conversation, which is the setting it will hold most of the night in a closed bedroom. At full speed you will hear it, which is the trade every purifier makes.

The body is a 195mm cylinder standing 398mm tall, so it takes up about as much floor as a large plant pot and can sit in a corner without being in the way.

The filter is the running cost, so plan for it

One Sensibo cartridge, changed roughly every six months depending on how dirty your air is. The app watches the hours and the readings and tells you when, rather than working to a fixed calendar.
