When to change Oclean brush heads, and how long a pack lasts

Dentists suggest changing a brush head every three months, and sooner if the bristles start to splay outwards. Splayed filaments have stopped following the shape of the tooth, so they skate over the surface instead of reaching into it, and no amount of extra brushing makes up for that.

A two-pack is therefore roughly half a year for one person. In a household with two Oclean users it is a quarter. It is worth keeping one spare pack in the bathroom cupboard, because the moment you notice the splay is the moment you want the replacement to already be there.

What the filaments are made of

These Oclean brush heads use DuPont filaments with rounded tips. Rounding matters at the gum line, where a cut filament end is what causes the irritation people blame on the brush itself.

The material is FDA-approved oral-safe, and the tufting density is high, which is the plain reason they clean well: more filaments per tuft means more bristle surface touching the tooth on every stroke.

A 3D profile rather than a flat cut

The bristles are contoured rather than trimmed level. The profile follows the curve of a tooth and reaches into the gaps between teeth, which is exactly where a flat-cut head does the least.

It is a small design difference and it lands where plaque actually accumulates, between the teeth and along the gum line rather than on the flat outer faces that any brush cleans easily.

Which Ocleans they fit

They fit the Oclean X Pro and the rest of the Oclean adult range, so if there is more than one Oclean in the house a single pack works across all of them.

They do not fit other brands. Sonic heads are not interchangeable between manufacturers, and a head from another make will not seat on an Oclean handle.

Buying these on their own

This is a spares item. If you do not own an Oclean yet, the brush is the Oclean X Pro, and it comes with two heads in the box already, so you will not need these for the first three months.
