A colour touchscreen on a toothbrush sounds like a gimmick. It stops sounding like one the first morning you want to change the intensity and do not have to find your phone, unlock it and open an app at half past six.

Modes, intensity and the timer are all set on the Oclean X Pro toothbrush itself. The app exists and is useful, but nothing you need day to day lives only inside it.

84,000 movements a minute, and 32 steps to dial it back

The magnetic levitation motor runs at 84,000 movements per minute across three cleaning modes, and the intensity divides into 32 steps rather than the usual two or three.

That range is the point. Sore gums want the low end. Coffee and tea stains want the top. Most brushes make you pick from three presets and hope one of them suits.

It notices when you press too hard

Pressing harder does not clean better, and on a gum line it does the opposite. When the brush detects over-brushing it drops the frequency automatically rather than letting you keep scrubbing.

A six-axis gyroscope also tracks where the brush is in your mouth and maps the session across eight zones. The app shows the spots you keep missing, which for most people turns out to be the same two or three places every single day.

Thirty days between charges

The 800mAh cell runs about a month of normal use and takes roughly two hours to fill, so it charges while you are at work rather than sitting on the basin overnight.

The charger is a magnetic base that doubles as a wall mount, so it sticks up by the mirror and holds the brush when it is not charging. That is one less thing on the basin, which in a shared bathroom matters more than it sounds.

What is in the box, and what you will need later

Two brush heads are included, one Plaque Control and one Delicate Care, so you can work out which suits you before buying refills. The brush is IPX7 rated and weighs under 100g with a head fitted, so a wet bathroom is no problem for it.
