About this product
Apple TV 4K drives a 4K set the way it was meant to be driven: 2160p at up to 60 frames a second, with Dolby Vision and HDR10, and Dolby Atmos passed through to a receiver or a soundbar. The picture is graded frame by frame rather than stretched, which is the difference between a 4K panel looking expensive and looking like a big 1080p television.

An HDMI cable is not in the box, and for 4K HDR it needs to be HDMI 2.0 or better.
What the Apple TV 4K actually does to the picture
2160p at up to 60 frames a second with Dolby Vision and HDR10. Dolby Vision grades the image frame by frame rather than applying one setting to the whole film, and that is the difference between a 4K panel looking like an expensive television and looking like a big 1080p one. If you have bought a good screen, this is the box that shows you what you paid for.
The chip is doing more than you think
The A10X Fusion is the same class of silicon Apple put in an iPad Pro. In practice that means the interface does not stall while you scroll, the App Store games are real games rather than demonstrations, and a 4K HDR stream starts when you press play instead of thinking about it. Gigabit Ethernet and dual band 802.11ac with MIMO keep the bitrate fed.
Read this about the HDMI cable
No cable is included, and for 4K HDR it has to be HDMI 2.0 or better. An old cable from a DVD player will often give you a picture, which is worse than giving you nothing, because it quietly drops to a lower mode and you spend a fortnight wondering why the 4K box looks ordinary. Buy the cable with the box.
Storage, and what we are holding
Apple sold this in 32 GB and 64 GB versions. Storage on a streaming box matters less than on a phone, since almost nothing is stored locally, but it matters if you install games. Ask us which capacity is on the shelf before you order rather than assuming.
The rest of it
Everything else is Apple: the App Store, Apple TV+, Netflix, YouTube, and AirPlay from an iPhone, iPad or Mac. Siri is on the remote, which also carries an infrared transmitter so it switches the television on and changes its volume. Dolby Atmos passes through to a receiver or soundbar.

What do I need for the 4K HDR to actually show?
A 4K television that accepts HDR, an HDMI 2.0 cable or better, and a connection fast enough for the stream. The cable is not in the box.
Which storage size is it?
Apple made this one in 32 GB and 64 GB. Ask us which we are holding before you order.
Will Dolby Atmos work on my soundbar?
It passes Atmos out over HDMI. Whether you hear it depends on the soundbar or receiver at the other end supporting it.
Can it control my television?
Yes. The Siri Remote has an infrared transmitter, so it switches the TV on and off and changes the volume too.
Do I need an iPhone?
No. It works on its own with an Apple ID. An iPhone, iPad or Mac adds AirPlay, so their screen goes straight to the television.
