360-Degree Audio with Dolby
The Amazon Echo (3rd Gen) features a cylindrical fabric exterior housing a 3.0-inch (76.2 mm) neodymium woofer and a 0.8-inch (20 mm) tweeter. Powered by Dolby audio processing, the internal acoustic architecture disperses sound uniformly across 360 degrees to deliver clear vocals and dynamic bass. Equaliser settings can be tailored directly inside the companion mobile app.
Smart Home Control and Alexa Voice Integration
Powered by the Alexa voice service, the Echo provides hands-free management of connected smart home hardware such as lights, switches, thermostats, and locks. Users can configure automated routines, query news and weather updates, set timers, and broadcast messages to other rooms using the built-in Drop In and Announcements functions.
Network and Audio Connectivity
The device connects over dual-band Wi-Fi across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks running 802.11a/b/g/n/ac. Built-in Bluetooth with A2DP enables direct wireless audio streaming from a phone or tablet to the speaker, or from the Echo out to a separate Bluetooth speaker. For expanded listening setups, two matching units can be paired for dedicated left and right stereo sound, or grouped with other compatible Echo hardware for multi-room audio playback.
Requirements and Privacy Controls
Operating the device requires mains power from the included 30W adapter, an active Wi-Fi connection, an Amazon account, and a smartphone or tablet running Fire OS, Android, or iOS with the Amazon Alexa app. A dedicated microphone off button on the top panel electronically disconnects the microphones, confirmed by an illuminated red light ring.

What is required to set up and run the Amazon Echo (3rd Gen)?
You need an active Wi-Fi network (802.11a/b/g/n/ac on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz), the included 30W power adapter plugged into mains electricity, an Amazon account, and the Amazon Alexa app installed on a compatible Fire OS, Android, or iOS device.
Does the Echo (3rd Gen) connect to external Bluetooth speakers?
Yes. It supports Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) to stream audio from a mobile device to the Echo, or from the Echo out to a standalone Bluetooth speaker. Speakers requiring PIN codes are not supported.
Can two Echo units be linked for stereo sound?
Yes. Using the Alexa app, you can pair the Echo (3rd Gen) with a second Echo (3rd Gen) or an Echo Plus (2nd Gen) for separate left and right channel stereo playback.
How do you mute the microphone on the device?
Press the microphone off button located on the top panel. This electronically disconnects the microphones, and the light ring turns red to indicate the device is not listening.
Does the Echo (3rd Gen) support smart home routines?
Yes. Through the Amazon Alexa app, you can build routines that trigger smart home actions such as turning on lights, adjusting thermostats, or locking doors using voice commands or schedules.
